Bill Cosby is deeply mourning the loss of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who passed away at 54 due to an accidental drowning. Warner, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, was swimming at Playa Cocles in Costa Rica when a strong current swept him away. Bystanders and emergency responders tried to save him, but Warner died at the scene.

Cosby’s representative, Andrew Wyatt, confirmed that the news devastated Cosby as much as when he learned about his son Ennis Cosby’s murder in 1997. Cosby fondly recalled the bond between Warner and Ennis. He said, “They were amazing together.”

In his statement, Cosby reflected on Warner’s strong work ethic. He said, “You could always rely on Malcolm. He’d go to the shelter, learn his lines, and be prepared.” Cosby added, “When I heard the news, it shocked me.”

Cosby also expressed his condolences to Warner’s mother, acknowledging her support throughout his career. He admired her dedication to her son’s success.

The Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Agency confirmed that Warner’s cause of death was asphyxia due to drowning. His sudden passing left fans and colleagues heartbroken. Tracee Ellis Ross, his co-star from Reed Between the Lines, posted a heartfelt tribute. She described Warner as “warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny, and elegant,” and expressed her sorrow over his loss.

Warner’s passing marks the end of an extraordinary career. His role as Theo on “The Cosby Show” and his work beyond it will continue to inspire. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who admired him.
