Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are proving that life across four homes can still feel “very comfortable.” In a recent interview with The Times, the 55-year-old actress opened up about the couple’s lifestyle, explaining how their homes in New York, Canada, and Spain give them balance and space away from the Hollywood spotlight.
“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” Zeta-Jones said.
The Oscar-winning actress revealed that she and Douglas, 80, value their independence while maintaining a strong bond. “Two celebrities together make 10. It’s just the way it is. We don’t listen to the crap that is written about us, that’s the main thing. And we respect our space, we’re independent spirits.”
A Unique Bond and Shared Birthday
The couple shares a special connection, as both were born on the same day — September 25, exactly 25 years apart. Zeta-Jones describes them as alike in many ways: “We’re not afraid to be verbal, to express ourselves. I wear everything on my sleeve and so does he, which is good.”
Michael Douglas Slows Down His Career
Douglas, who has worked tirelessly for nearly 60 years, admitted that he has no real intention of returning to full-time acting. At the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, he explained, “I realized I had to stop. I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set. I say I’m not retired because if something special came up, I’d go back, but otherwise, no.”
The actor, who married Zeta-Jones in 2000, shares son Dylan, 25, and daughter Carys, 22, with her. He is also father to Cameron, 46, from his first marriage.
Comfortable Retirement and Family Life
Zeta-Jones supports her husband’s decision to slow down, while keeping the door open for his possible return to acting. “Michael has definitely earned the chance to slow down,” she said. “But I never say never. He’s his father’s son and loves to work — let’s just say, ‘retirement’ is a flexible concept.”
For now, the couple seems content enjoying family time across their four homes, especially their residence in Spain, which allows them to retreat from Hollywood’s constant glare.
