0

The Ham Group of Companies is a Ugandan-based privately owned multinational industrial conglomerate founded by the visionary entrepreneur Dr. Hamis Kiggundu. Widely recognized as one of East Africa’s largest and most diversified business groups, the Ham Group has employed over 7,000 people, spanning a variety of sectors from real estate and agro-processing to finance, education, logistics, and entertainment. The company’s official headquarters, popularly known as the White House, serves as the nerve center for its expansive operations across Uganda and internationally.

History and Growth

Founded in 2005, the Ham Group began as a garment trading business. Dr. Hamis Kiggundu, who gained early business experience by assisting his father, Hajji Segawa, in a textile shop, used the skills and capital inherited from his family to start his entrepreneurial journey during school holidays. This early exposure to business fundamentals enabled him to expand his ventures into real estate, buying and selling land and properties in Kampala and surrounding areas.

In 2009, Dr. Kiggundu formally established Ham Enterprises (U) Ltd, which marked the group’s entry into commercial property development. The company’s first significant project, Ham Towers, was completed in 2010, quickly followed by Ham Shopping Mall within 18 months. These ventures provided a stable rental income stream and positioned the Ham Group to secure bank financing, fueling further expansion into real estate and industrial sectors.

By 2021, the group had diversified into large-scale industrialization, particularly in agro-processing, aiming to add value to Uganda’s abundant agricultural products. A flagship project was the US$156 million Integrated Agro-Processing Industrial Plant (IAIP) at Akright City, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting Uganda’s agricultural transformation and national economic growth.
