Saif Ali Khan Was Secretly Given Sleeping Pills on Set, Says Sooraj Barjatya
In a surprising behind-the-scenes revelation, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya shared that during the shoot of Hum Saath Saath Hain, actress Amrita Singh secretly gave her then-husband Saif Ali Khan sleeping pills — all on the director’s advice.
According to Barjatya, Saif was visibly stressed and emotionally drained while filming the family drama, especially during the iconic wedding song “Suno Ji Dulhan.” The pressure from his personal life was affecting his on-screen performance. He was reportedly suffering from severe insomnia, unable to sleep at night due to personal turmoil.
To help the young actor relax, Barjatya revealed he discreetly suggested to Amrita that she administer sleeping pills without informing Saif, hoping it would help him rest and reset. “The next day, he was a completely different person on set,” Barjatya recalled. “He nailed his scenes in one take.”
The trick worked — but it was a temporary fix to deeper issues. Though Amrita silently supported Saif during those troubled days, their 13-year marriage ended in 2004.
Saif and Amrita’s love story had once captivated Bollywood fans. The couple married in 1991, despite a notable age gap — Saif was just 20, while Amrita was already an established star. While their early years were filled with romance and public fascination, cracks soon appeared, amplified by career pressures and personal challenges.
This unexpected disclosure offers fans a glimpse into the off-camera struggles faced by even the most glamorous stars, and the extreme steps sometimes taken in the name of professionalism.
