Afrigo Band, Uganda’s most iconic musical group, will celebrate 50 years of timeless music with a historic concert on August 16, 2025 at Millennium Grounds, Lugogo.
The band formed in 1975 when eight musicians led by Moses Matovu came together. Since then, Afrigo has released 22 albums and over 200 songs. Their music has become the soundtrack to generations of Ugandans. It punctuates weddings, celebrations, and even moments of sorrow.
At a press briefing today at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala, Ali Alibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group, explained the milestone’s significance.
“The Legends of Sound: Afrigo at 50 is about celebrating our icons while they are still on stage,” he said. “It also reminds the next generation what true consistency and musical excellence look like.”
He emphasized:
“Afrigo Band at 50 is a milestone that deserves a grand celebration. We honour the legends who have shaped Uganda’s music and cultural identity. This event will set a new benchmark for celebrating our heritage and inspire audiences to build legacies—not just hits.”
Meanwhile, Afrigo Band frontman Moses Matovu shared why the group has endured.
“We’ve stayed strong because we work together, stay active, love what we do, and always put our fans first.”
Additionally, the celebration will feature Koffi Olomide, the celebrated Congolese singer-songwriter. He has confirmed he will perform that night. His appearance adds a regional dimension to the anniversary.
Talent Africa Group is organizing the event. Stanbic Bank Uganda, CFAO Mobility, and Tusker Malt Lager are powering it.
With five decades behind them, Afrigo Band is ready to deliver an unforgettable night. The show will honour Uganda’s musical legends and inspire the next wave of artists to dream big.
