According to police, a black BMW 430i was reported driving erratically at high speed along the southbound lanes of US-101 near the Borchard Road exit in Newbury Park.
Officers stopped the vehicle shortly before 9 p.m. local time. Authorities said the driver, later identified as Spears, appeared to show signs of impairment.
Police then asked the singer to perform a series of field sobriety tests. After the evaluation, officers arrested Spears on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol.
The 44-year-old singer was taken to Ventura County Main Jail, located northwest of Los Angeles.
