Michael Fabricant Reveals Six-Figure Payout for Celebrity Big Brother Appearance
Former Conservative MP Sir Michael Fabricant has revealed he was paid a six-figure sum for participating in ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother, despite being the first housemate evicted.
Fabricant, 74, previously represented Lichfield in Staffordshire until losing his seat in the 2024 general election. He entered the Celebrity Big Brother house earlier this month but was voted out just four days later.
Speaking to BBC WM, the ex-MP admitted that while he initially expected to dislike the experience, he was surprised to find most contestants “lovely.” He shared particular admiration for drag artist Danny Beard, saying he hopes they go on to win the show.
From Parliament to Prime Time
Fabricant confirmed that he had been approached several times in the past to join Celebrity Big Brother and I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, but declined out of respect for his constituents.
He declined to disclose the exact amount he earned from the show, citing contractual restrictions, but described it as a “six-figure” sum.
While he appreciated most of his fellow contestants, Fabricant noted he didn’t connect well with TV host Trisha Goddard or EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer during his short stay in the house.
No Return to Politics
Having closed the chapter on his political career, Fabricant stated that he has no intention of seeking re-election, though he may still support local campaigns through volunteer work.
In classic flamboyant style, he also reiterated his ongoing campaign to organize an annual nude cycling event in Lichfield, a nod to his 2018 stunt where he cycled naked in London to raise money for a hospice.
Speaking humorously, he said to Lichfield Cathedral officials:
“You can hide your modesty with your cross.”
Public Reaction and Reality TV Presence
Fabricant’s Big Brother appearance marked yet another high-profile transition from politics to reality television—a trend increasingly common among former public figures. His time in the house follows a controversial entrance, where he was booed by the audience, and a lighthearted exit, having added a splash of eccentricity to the show’s early days.
