Lilo & Stitch China box office numbers jumped to the top over the May 23–25 weekend, earning RMB62.3 million ($8.7 million). This live-action Disney remake became the top-performing title during a quiet release slate, according to Artisan Gateway.
The debut marked a rare Hollywood win in 2025, where most top-grossing films have been local productions. It also highlighted Disney’s global brand appeal, especially in family-friendly segments.
Meanwhile, “The Dumpling Queen” slipped to second place after three weekends on top. It earned $3 million, bringing its total to $53.5 million. The CMC Pictures release, directed by Andrew Lau and starring Ma Li, continues to resonate with viewers through its rags-to-riches biopic narrative.
In third place, “A Gilded Game” secured $2.5 million. This financial thriller from Universe Entertainment has now grossed $38.5 million. The star power of Andy Lau and Ni Ni, along with the film’s plot on corporate corruption and ambition, has helped sustain audience interest.
“The Open Door”, a comedy from Wanda Pictures, took fourth place. It made $1 million over the weekend, raising its total earnings to $18.2 million. While it hasn’t led the chart, it has remained consistent over several weekends.
“Ne Zha 2” came in fifth with $900,000 in its 17th weekend. Produced by Cococartoon, the animated epic has now earned $2.14 billion, making it China’s top film of 2025 by a wide margin.
Overall, the weekend box office totaled $20.4 million, slightly down from the previous week. Despite the dip, China’s cumulative box office for 2025 has reached $3.76 billion, up 26.8% compared to the same time last year.
Looking ahead, June promises a stronger performance. Several major domestic titles and global releases are on the slate. As a result, the market is expected to pick up momentum heading into the summer.
