After nearly five years in development, Netflix has officially given the green light to the highly anticipated live-action Assassin’s Creed TV series.

Creative Powerhouses at the Helm

Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, The Killing) will spearhead the series as its creators, showrunners, and executive producers.

This marks a major milestone for fans of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise — a blockbuster gaming universe that began in 2007 and has since sold more than 230 million copies worldwide.

What to Expect from the Series

Netflix describes the show as:

“A high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”

It promises to blend historical intrigue, action-packed parkour, and the franchise’s signature themes of free will, identity, and destiny.

From Console to Screen — Again

This isn’t Assassin’s Creed’s first leap into live-action. The franchise made its cinematic debut in 2016 through Twentieth Century Fox, raking in $240 million globally. The upcoming Netflix series, however, aims to deliver a deeper and more serialized exploration of the universe.

A Statement from the Creators

“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us,” said Wiener and Patino in a joint statement.

They emphasized that beyond the spectacle, the story dives into human connection, identity, and what happens when those connections break:

“This is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time. And it’s about what we stand to lose as a species, when those connections break.”

Netflix’s Vision for Assassin’s Creed

Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s VP of scripted series, stated:

“Guided by the deft hands of Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has carefully crafted an epic adventure that both honors the legacy of the Assassin’s Creed franchise and invites longtime fans and newcomers alike to experience the thrill of the Brotherhood as never before.”

Ubisoft’s Full Support

Executive producers from Ubisoft Film & Television, including Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill, are on board. Boykin shared:

“We look forward to delivering an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about Assassin’s Creed, while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide.”

Join the Brotherhood

With a talented creative team and years of planning behind it, Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed is poised to become the next big franchise adaptation in the streaming space — joining successful predecessors like Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and Castlevania.
