Hollywood star Richard Gere’s Connecticut estate has officially been demolished, paving the way for a new nine-property residential development. The Richard Gere house demolition follows the couple’s sale of the New Canaan property for $10.75 million in October 2024.

Gere and his wife, Alejandra Gere, have since relocated to Spain, though Alejandra has hinted the family may return to the US in the future.

The mansion, originally built in the 1930s, was torn down earlier this year. Reggie Young, founder of Hudson Valley House, confirmed that his team was able to salvage materials before the demolition. “The house has been taken down, and we are grateful the buyers gave us time to retrieve everything,” he said.

The sprawling estate was one of the most notable celebrity-owned properties in Connecticut, long admired for its architecture and expansive grounds.

Family Life Beyond Connecticut

Though the Richard Gere house demolition closes a chapter in the actor’s US real estate story, Gere continues to focus on family life. Married since 2018, Richard and Alejandra share two sons, Alexander and James. Alejandra also has a son, Albert, from a previous marriage, while Gere is father to Homer from his marriage to Carey Lowell.

In a 2024 interview, Gere described the family’s move to Spain as a “great adventure,” praising Alejandra for supporting him in the US for six years. On August 31, Gere celebrated his 76th birthday, with Alejandra posting a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, calling him the family’s “rock.”
